7 Summary and conclusions
We observe an increasing speed in the growth of the Big data flood, which may show the limits of state-of-the-art Big data analytics engines in the near future. Hence we start a discussion about possible future development phases of Big data analytics engines. For this purpose, we look at the integration of emergent hardware technologies as co-processors for Big data analytics engines. Moreover, we discuss new computing paradigms, which may be also utilized for future generations of Big data analytics engines. We also take a short look at the Semantic Web, the data model of which supports mechanisms to increase the value of Big data. We discuss open challenges and new research questions with special focus on Big data analytics engines for new computing paradigms like fog and dew computing, the Semantic Internet of Things area and index accesses of hardware-accelerated Big data analytics engines.
