Conclusions, implications, and future perspectives
In conclusion, from this exploratory research, the study deems that smart city projects could be developed taking into consideration different factors, such as social and stakeholder engagement, citizens’ startup mentality, firms’ commitment, and strategic public control (Bresciani et al., 2017). This approach serves as forerunner for the construction of a new conceptual and practical framework, which will rebuild the smart city based on social entrepreneurial intensity (Morris, 1998).
This research aims to understand how disruptive innovation could circulate within complex local systems, encompassing open innovation mechanisms and practices, and furthering the ways in which the opening of technological gates to urban smart networks can spread external sources of knowledge (Lhuillery and Pfister, 2009; Pisano et al., 2014).
